Valdez 2010- Part 1

I spent a week in Valdez with a variety of people, skiing and exploring the area. Good weather for the most part, but even though less than perfect stability kept us off all of our objectives, we managed to ski every day. Here's Jason Kwiatkowski dropping in on an unnamed peak off the Tonsina Glacier...Below is Jed Workman getting ready to drop in to Meteorite...
Jason Kwiatkowski, Tory Dugan and Jed Workman booting up Meteorite. It got to around 55 degrees near the top.
Approaching Meteorite with the above mentioned personnell, plus Brian Totten...
Jon Cobb showing us he's actually a good skier, in addition to being a good climber...
Tory Dugan rides the Summit 800...high speed transport on the Tonsina Glacier...

Canwell Glacier

Sam Johnson was heading back to Fairbanks at the end of his spring break, and we decided it would be fun to explore a bit around the eastern Alaska Range. We decided to try for a day of skiing up at the head of the Canwell Glacier, as we heard there was a "snowmachine highway" going up the glacier...below is Sam looking for the highway...
Booting a section above the Gakona Glacier...

We first tried to ski the peak behind Sam's head, but retreated due to questionable snowpack and ended up doing some lower angle touring...
Our self made highway on the ride home...
